Desi wool weaving, or Desi Oon, is an age-old craft rooted in the dry, rugged land of Kutch. It brings together pastoral communities who rear native sheep and skilled artisans who spin and weave their wool into strong, beautiful textiles. The wool, known for its warmth and durability, is transformed by hand into blankets, rugs, and shawls.
The process begins with the herders who carefully shear and clean the fleece. The wool is then hand-spun into yarn and woven on pit looms using time-honored techniques.
Desi Oon is more than just weaving; it is a shared practice that links people, animals, and landscape in one rhythm. Every textile carries the texture of Kutch—the warmth of its communities, the honesty of its materials, and the quiet strength of a craft that has endured for generations.
